When I remove the bowl (on schedule) a while later she'll spend her time sniffing the floor and trying to eat stuff she finds on the floor. My vet said she is in favor of schedule feeding but I have gradually switched over to free feed just so I can see some food going into her. She is eliminating OK.
Just as a question: What do we do with our yorkies, schedule or free feed (remember I have to work during the day)?
In your case, I would probably free feed. I'm not gone more than a few hours at a time. Mine is fat enough! However, she won't eat when I'm gone anyway. Plus, I like to know when she will eliminate. I have always fed my doggies on a schedule. It works for me, but mine haven't been very finicky, either. Sometimes mine isn't interested in eating when we get up at 6 a.m., either, but she wakes me up to go for a nice, loooooooong walk and when we come back she's ready to eat!
