We spend an awful lot of time training our yorkies to go in the right place. Maybe you could use the same methods for your man.
Unfortunately you'll need stand near him while he goes.
When he manages to get it in the bowl click and reward! (or maybe just a "Good Boy"!).
And when he misses you don't scold (he might get a complex LOL) just say "oh dear" in a disappointed voice.
