btw, would you mind telling me a bit about your job, I was thinking about going into that field...

What would you like to know? There are a lot of different areas you can get into. I work for a marketing consultant group as the gd - the ONLY gd, which means I work A LOT of hours - but I'm also on salary which is hard to find these days in this type of work. A lot of graphic designers end up working freelance, but I'm the kind of person who needs to know where her next paycheck is coming from and that they'll be coming on a regular basis! It's a competitive field - if you already have a well developed eye for design and some artistic ability you're already ahead of some of the graphic designers I've known - A lot of them know software programs and technical crap, but can't throw a layout together to save their life. Pay for graphic design jobs is generally quite good - freelancers can earn anywhere from $25 - $60+ per hour (this is in canada, don't know what the field is like in the US). It's a lot of fun, requires a good deal of technical saavy as well as design ability - both can be learned at any good school. You could try doing a job search for your area and typing in keywords associated with graphic design to see what type of jobs are available and if any of them sound like something you would be interested in - might be a way to get you started and see if it's a direction you'd like to take.

Sorry Katys mom for taking over your thread!
