Hello and Welcome to Y/T.

Collapsed tracheas are a congenital disorder that is most common in the "toy breeds. Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Pomerainians ect. Due to it being in the small breeds, it is believed to be inherited. If you have a female or male that has this condition, of course would be unethical to breed them. The problem with this disorder is it mostly does not show up until later in the life of the dog, usually after the 6th year, although it can show symptoms before then. By this time, some of these dogs are already bred several times. This is why it is important to know about the pedigree of the particular dog, and being able to see the parents of the pup or at least having the information available to you. I hope this helps you.
