YESSSSSS there are a few who are going to say things and make you NOT want to sell them the pup but a smart person only has to tell you what you want to hear and you will send your pup off thinking it went to the greatest home.

Usually when purchasing a puppy....The breeder will have several conversations with an individual...which ultimately reveals more and more about that person. I also think most breeders develops a gut instinct about people. You can quote rhetoric....but a person's innate warmth, kindness and intelligence is hard to mimic with any real sincerity.
Besides...truth be told...most people can spot a phony a mile away. If you can't, then you're not trusting your inner voice....it never lies ....
