Actually you only need a current rabies vaccine if you are driving. You need a health certificate if flying. I am very close to the Cdn/US border and cross fairly frequently with one dog or another.
You should really bring a proof of ownership even a Vet bill will do showing you own the dog. Some customs officers get a little zealous as to who might own the dog and whether you will leave it for someone in Canada or when you go home, the US people can question where the dog came from in the first place.
Most customs crossings are fine and there are no problems.
You won't have trouble bringing his dog food into Canada but US customs can be sticky when you cross back over. Yep even if you bought it there in the first place and brought it with you. Don't travel with too much crossing back into US in case they take it away. |
