Back when I breed - I would breed once every other year on their 2nd heat if she was of excellent quality and size to breed. I would have my female spayed at the age of 5 years and retire them to just being our house pet. Before breeding I would check her faults and make sure I matched her up with a complmenting stud that did not have the same faults. All yorkies have a fault. Most of the time I breed to champion studs, just my preferences. I also have the necessary tests and vet checks before breeding. I have had as little as one pup and as many as 6 pups in a litter. Most common is two or three per litter. No profit is ever made. So make sure you have at lest 500. in the bank for vet cost before breeding - just in case you need it. It is just a rule of thumb.
