Oh you are all so sweet. Thank you so so much for your kind words and prayers. They must have been answered because he came home this evening
I rang the vet's after I posted this and they called me straight back at 8.30 and said to bring him in immediately. The vet checked him over and said that he was in a lot of pain and discomfort. He said their major concern was the blood coming up and because Badger is only 3.8 pounds the dehydration aspect was very serious. So they kept him in yesterday and ran a whole battery of tests. He also stayed over last night. I was so worried the whole night. I've barely had any sleep. I wanted to come on here and talk to you all but I just felt so upset and scared that I knew I would just cry when I saw all the pictures of all the other puppies. Anyway, they called this afternoon and said that he'd been given electrolyte solutions and water and was taking a little food and to come get him. I was overjoyed! He was so happy to see me too. He's so tiny and gorgeous and I felt so bad that I could have done this to him. I'll never forget his little face when he was retching up blood
So, to cut a long story short, the vet said his opinion was that Badger had a particularly bad stomach infection and that the blood vomit was an indication of some rupturing in the stomach. We went through everything that he could have eaten but we couldn't isolate anything in particular. I did mention to the doctor that I had only noticed yesterday that the cheese I had given Badger that night had a mould growth on it and I must not have seen it that night. He said this could have been a factor. I also mentioned that there are cats (grrrrrrrrrr) coming into my garden and I have had to stop Badger eating their faeces before. He said this could be another factor. I'm hoping that there's nothing else
And my little boy is doing great tonight. I've been given a solution to give him half an hour before he eats. It's to balance the acid in his tummy apparently. I have to give that to him three times a day. He's had a bit of chicken in two separate meals tonight and is otherwise sleeping. He looks a bit frail because I think he might have lost weight but the vet said that he thinks the worst is over and just to keep an eye on him
So thank you thank you thank you for all your prayers and advice. I don't know what I would do without this forum and all your great support. Thank you again
