I brought Freyja in on Friday for her 12 wk. shot (DHPP and Bordetella). I also asked about getting some FORBID for her poop eating. WELL, by Saturday Freyja was having mucousy, bloody stools and she just lay around most of the day. I called the vet, left a message got no reply. Receptionist said put her on hamburger and rice. Thought I'd rather try sugar water and baby chicken (which she is used to). Gave up on the FORBID. Sunday, more bloody poop, so on to hamburger and rice which she gorged herself on and then vomited twice an hour later. She then had 3 runny poops within 30 minutes. I gave her 1/4 tsp. children's Kaopectate and called the vet. Finally got an appointment with another vet who explained that she was having an allergic reaction to her vaccination. She said thank goodness the symptoms could have been worse(!)
So now the poor thing is all worn out and on small amounts of hamburger and rice and Metronidazole to settle her stomach.
The other vet said she is going to red flag Freyja's chart and give her a steroid before the next shots to lessen the reaction.
Phew! I've been a nervous wreck! These poor furbabies are as much concern as real babies!
