I like that!!! That leash sounds like a good idea. The good thing is that our baby likes..i mean loves following us everywhere we go. The only down fall for us is that we are at work from 8-1pm and then for lunch we go home to feed him and play with him for an hour.. and then from 2-6:30pm we are back at work. So we leave him alone for such a long time. At first we would leave him in the bathroom with a baby gate and suddenly one day we found him outside in the living room wondering around. We were puzzled on how he got out. Well we found out that he had climbed the baby fence and jumped out. So then we decided to leave him in the bathroom with the door closed (mind you the bathroom is a pretty big spacious bathroom).
Well it worked for one day and the following work day we came home and we found blood on the floor...well guess what he was scratching on the door trying to get out that he made his paws bleed. We were so sad

we didnt want him to get hurt anymore. We felt horrible that we brought him home knowing we work 5 days a week and 9 hours a day... but me and my girlfriend fell in love with him... we were sad at the fact that he was getting hurt and crying everytime we would leave in the morning...We were confused because we didnt know if we should just give him a better home or find a solution to keep him with us.... We came up with a solution to keep him because we didnt want to let him go.. We decided to expand his space... This is what we did...since we live in a 2 bedroom condo with 2 bathrooms we have a pretty long hall way so what we did is we gave him the freedom to roam around the hall way and put a gate so that he cant get to the living room....well that didnt work.... he decided to scratch all three doors...the guest room, our room door and the bathroom...yea there was more blood on the floor this time...Sooo what we did this Monday when we came home for lunch and saw blood on everydoor step is we just let him roam free throughout the house...
We basically have tile flooring all over the house so we were more concerned about him not getting hurt then having to come home and clean his mess....
Basically as of yesterday he did something really really good...Since he sleeps with us in our room (of course on his own little bed) every morning when we wake up we automatically take him outside to the patio and he goes pee..right way! We praise him when he does so....We have been doing that for 2 weeks now. So last night when we were home hanging out we noticed that he kept going to the sliding door that leads to the patio...so my girlfriend and i stared at eachother in surprise...so my girlfriend goes and opens the sliding door and sure enough he went outside to pee...and later he went outside to take care of his business too....BUT.... I dont know if we are doing the right thing by letting him roam free... The reason i say that is because he is not consistant..The last time we thought he was getting use to his pee pad...but that only lasted 2-3 days...and then he just started going everywhere.. I am hoping that he continues going outside...and today is his 2nd day of freedom in the house...so we have yet to find out if we will be going home to a messy house or if he was a good boy and went outside...
I dont know what else to do because most of it is our fault. I want to crate train him as many other people have mentioned but i am afraid he will go crazy..the reason I say that is because of his actions that we have seen with the whole bathroom door and him making himself bleed..I dont want to confuse the little guy now that we have let him take the house to himself....
What do you think can be done since we are not home during the week...until 630pm of course... we spend the whole weekend with him and take him everywhere with us, but I know he needs more attention...let me know what you think...
