While we're all happy to give you our opinions and our experiences, I think you could probably get more factual information from your vet.
Joey was neutered at 8 months. I don't see any change in his activity level or his weight. At 8 months, he had been marking for several months and was humping pillows and toys. With the exception of 1 toy, the humping has stopped ( I've "lost" that toy!). He still marks but not as frequently as before.
