I seperate my 2 because they are new to one another. Baby is a sweetheart, but I don't want to take the chance of things going to far when I am away. I am a stay at home mother, but when I do leave the puppy is crated. Baby stays in my bedroom to sleep in her bed. The bathroom door is opened and there is fresh water and food for her there. Your older dog is still fairly young. Baby is going to be 3 years old and when she wants to stop playing she likes to be able to get away from the puppy. Baby is also used to being alone. I think you should go with what you feel is right. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
