i do coco's ears once a month and clean them out really well. yes it really needs to be done because dirt and bacteria attaches to the hairs and make them more prone to ear mites and ear infection. the trick is to pluck it fast! i learned this with coco when i was plucking it slow it bothers him more than when i would do it fast.i pluck out all the hairs inside the canal making sure not to to touch any flesh, i don't stick it in his ear, just the hairs that are sticking out of the inner ear. since i started doing this his ear smells nice and clean and stays clean longer. hope this helps!
