Default Ewww... Should schedule the first grooming??

Yesterday I noticed that Mia had a clump of poo stuck in the vicinity of her butt, and I had a very difficult time removing the icky thing. Today I noticed the same thing, and I really don't want to clean her butt every day, or worry about where she put her butt before I noticed her "problem." I want her hair to grow long, so I was kind of hoping I could do without the grooming experience many people seem to be unhappy about. But this issue of stuck poo got me thinking... maybe I should schedule a grooming session to get rid of the hair in her back area. I cannot possibly cut her hair myself. I'll do the brushing, combing, bathing, and maybe a little trimming the ends of her hair once in a while, but I am too afraid to cut her hair so close to the skin. What do you guys think? Is it standard to trim the hair on her behind, and under her paws even if you want the hair to grow? How does it work?
Please help. Thanks.
