During the day he loves to play with his toys inside and out and loves to go for a walk,(great on a leash, no pulling at all, he's a natural) but when its his nap time he lays in his bed in whatever room I am in, (yes there are dog beds all over the house). When I try to pick him up and set him on my lap he is a wiggle bug and I have to put him down and he goes back to his bed.
Is this a puppy thing and will he get more cuddly as he grows older or is this just his personality?

Give him time. He is very young yet. It will definitely change as he gets older.
