MCHENRY, Ill., July 14 (UPI) -- An Illinois family is offering a $10,000 reward for the return of a Yorkshire terrier who can sense when their daughter is going to have an epileptic seizure.
The terrier, named Faithful, ran away more than two months ago following a run-in with an unleashed dog, the Chicago Tribune says.
When Connie Sheetz gave Faithful to her daughter, Christine, five years ago she had no idea the little Yorkie would be a life-saver.
He showed an uncanny ability to respond to Christine's seizures, barking and summoning help within minutes of her being stricken.
It was especially important if Christine had a seizure in the middle of the night.
Sheetz, who has had epilepsy since she was 2, said Faithful would respond to her seizures even when the dog was in a different room or upstairs.
The family has printed 900 fliers and 150 posters in an effort to get Faithful back.
They purchased a new Yorkie named Hope who so far hasn't exhibited any seizure response skills.
