It zips on top & the sides and has mesh fabric sides on both ends of the barrel-type bag for air ventilation.
These carriers are designed for smaller dogs. First one is 9 inches tall, second is 10 inches tall. They are actually both similar in size. The first one is a tad longer than the second carrier pictured. I have several pictures of chloe in the second carrier so I have attached them to help get a feel for size of carrier. CHloe was about 2.7 lbs in these pictures (first picture is pretty old becasue you can tell her head was still silver).
