My dad built steps for Max and Abbie to get on and off the bed. They both were afraid to use them to get off the bed at first but eventually they learned to use them. We practiced and I praised them a lot so they use them all of the time now. Give him some time--maybe he'll get used to them. Or maybe try using a ramp--it might not seem as steep as the stairs.
