I use a food scale (around $10.00) that has a bowl on top. It shows the weight in pounds and ounces up to 7 pounds. I can even use it for my adults.

If 1.7 is in pounds then you would take 1.7 and multiply by 16 which would give you approx. 27 ounces or 1 pound 11 ounces.

I have also taken mine to the shipping places and used their digital scales before I found such an economical one.
