Whatever works for you. We have antique shop scales that we've tested and found to be very accurate from 1oz up to 10 or 15 pounds. I just put a very large steel mixing bowl on top (that just happens to weigh exactly 1 pound), plop Bailey into the bowl, and there you have it. A big plus is that for some reason she doesn't squirm around in that bowl, so it's easier to get an accurate reading.

I don't remember who posted it, but the cutest weighing method that I've heard of came up in a YT post a little while back. they put their Yorkie in its harness, and hung the harness D-ring from fish scales. They didn't post a picture of the process, but I'd love to see that!!!!
