I felt bad too when I started back to work full time. But they do ok by themselves. I leave mine in a super large crate with bed, water, and toys. Mostly he just sleeps though.
I try to get home for lunch but if not I just expect there will be an accident. He cannot hold his bladder for longer than 5 hours.
Try not to feel too bad about leaving him. They really do adjust well! And mybe once or twice a week you can drop him off at doggy daycare or have someone come by to take him on a walk.
