I read this a few times, over the internet, books etc. When they are puppies they need lots of protein 27-28 percent and as they grow into adults they need about 21-23 percent. Yes if they have too much protein it can strain their liver. One of the books I read this out of was the book, "Yorkshire terrier for Dummies".
