Hi Shana, I don't know really anything about gum disease in dogs but I do know that when I get canker sores or cold sores really bad the best thing to clear it up quickly is a plain tea bag. If she'll let you just soak one in water and rub it around her gums, otherwise just drinking a little cold tea will help. Leastways it certainly won't hurt. I hope the vet can help soon.
