I think that if the puppy is a good size and is eating very well on its own - you could get it at 8 or 9 weeks. My 8-week-old pup met both those criteria and has been nothing but happy, healthy, playful, and affectionate since I got him - plus he has grown like a weed.

I should mention also that I spent the first two weeks at home with him when I first got him - and except for when he was sleeping (which was most of the time), I pretty much carried him around with me - and he slept with me from the first night on. So - he was never alone or lonesome - and never appeared to miss his mother or littermates at all.

He's definitely not spoiled --just the opposite. He almost never barks and doesn't whine, and doesn't want to be with me every minute of every day - and he is not demanding at all. He's a well-adjusted, happy, healthy, little guy.

But - again - at 8 weeks, he was a good healthy size - and was eating up a storm before I got him.

Good luck! Carol Jean
