Anal glands are gland right inside the anas. They usually extract on their own when a dog poops, but may not extract completely and have to be extracted manually. You can do it yourself if you know what you are doing or you can have the vet or groomer show you how to do it. On average it should be done about once a month. Some dogs need it more than others. I just do it when I groom my dogs.

When they start scooting that is usually the first thing I think of. It can also be worms or their butt is just irritated.
