I've read on here that shampooing with Dawn dish soap will kill them. I've never needed to try it so not sure if it works.
Throw out the Advantage and get Frontline. It's cheaper if you order on line, but I wouldn't wait, I'd go to Petco or to your Vet to get it.
As for fleas in your house, you need to wash all bedding and vacuum thuroughly.
But keep in mind that fleas need a food source to complete their life cycle, so they will need to jump onto the dog to feed, and if the dog is treated with Frontline they will then die.
