I have had great luck stopping the barking by using a "Bark Can" You simply take an empty soft drink can and put some pennies in it. When your little one starts barking you shake the can. The first time if they don't stop or they continue barking after a minute....toss (not throw) the can toward them. This startles them and has worked like a dream for our Schnauzer and Silkie Terrier we used to have and works now for our new little Yorkie, Taylor. I have had bark cans posted at different locations in the house....usually where the dogs could see chipmunks etc so I would have one handy. It might look like you aren't very tidy leaving cans around but it sure stops the barking! After they get the idea about the can.... you will sometimes have to barely rattle it and they will stop immediately.
