Here's my crate situation...I'll be away from my home on the weekdays for about 8 to 9 hrs. at a time and would have to resort to leaving the crate door open and confining her to the kitchen with food/water in dishes. This I know makes it pointless as far as crate training is concerned, but this is what my vet suggested if I have no dog sitter. Only time I can close her up in the crate is overnight, but won't that confuse her as she'll know she is free during the weekdays?

So my question is, should I just return the crate to the pet shop and stick with a dog bed? (I know this may take longer to paper train her). Your advice is appreciated.
