Gale, I think picky eating is pretty much a "Yorkie" trait!
It's hard to believe, but our vet was correct when she told us, "if they are hungry ... they WILL eat"!! Our breeder gave us a supply of the frozen BilJack when we got Toto and although it was frozen and packed on ice, when I opened it I almost threw up! It has a terrible smell and Toto wouldn't touch it even though it was what she was accustomed to. I discovered the Natural Balance which comes in a roll similar to "summer sausage", and after Dr. Lucy looked it over and approved, we started giving Toto that, chopped in tiny pieces .... she still has days when she won't even touch it, but we also keep the Royal Canin Yorkshire 28 down all the time and indeed, when she is hungry, she eats!!
Toto also plays with her food and tosses it around, sometimes goes about her playing and then later eats it ... she is too funny ... her little expression looks like "oh, I meant to eat that"!!
We also give her the vet formula NutriCal to make sure she gets all the nutrients that she might miss on her "picky days".
BTW ... isn't it amazing how high they can toss things? Toto had a golf ball in with her toys [no idea how it got there] and since it was too large for her little mouth, she would sometimes roll it around ... until one day she had the thing out and bounced it off the wall about 2 feet above her head!! It barely missed her and as soon as she wasn't looking, her "Wilson" disappeared!!! No more golf balls for her!!
