Abuse is a likely reason for his cowering but it isn't the reason ALL the time. My shih tzu cowers everytime I walk up to her. Why? She thinks I'm going to pick her up for grooming or bathing. Sigh. If I'm sitting down and reach for her of if I get down on the floor with her she is a happy little camper. Oh yes, she is extremly shy with other people and avoids being petted but she only cowers for me! I admit she is a puppy mill rescue but we got her when she was 6-weeks old and she is 8-years old now. She didn't appear to have any problems. Who knows?????? |
