I do lex's all the time. I gave him a home puppy cut and he looked pretty good. Gave me a hell of a time though. I got a small palm sized wahl clipper for $8 from jefferspet.com. It's great. I use it do his manly parts, his bum and the pads on his paws. I usually shave up to the bottom of his ribcage to keep him clean. Works great.
