Wow I found that to be quite the opposite when I was in Paris last summer. Everyone was so willing to help us with whatever we needed but we NEVER spoke French! As a matter of fact, my husband did not think he would like France because he thought everyone would be rude. It was his favorite place to go!
Last summer we went to Rome and travelled by train acrosss Europe. It was one of the best vacations we have ever had. You will have so much fun but there is a lot to do. My advice, figure out what you REALLY want to do and do that first. We really wanted to go to the Louvre but did an abbreviated tour. We saw all the big pieces we wanted to see and then left and went to go spend the afternoon at Versailles.
