Oh goodness, I would have never thought a procedure would worsen things. At first, I thought that it was just a coincidence that the pup developed pneumonia after the tracheal wash, but after reading the last post about Chewi becoming sicker as well after that procedure, I am starting to wonder.
Definitely, I suggest to everyone to use VET school clinics (if available). Extraordinary cases (outside your run of the mill vet visits) are reviewed by other doctors, because the vet student treating the dog is being tested, so there is limited chance of doctor error. Plus, vet students are studying everyday, so they would be more aware of things then a seasoned doctor, IMO.
Anyway, I think you should contact the breeder about the kennel cough. After 5 days of having the puppy, she is sick! I would be upset, that isn't right, and she should be liable for giving you a sick puppy!
About viral infections, many people don't understand the difference between viral and bacterial. Viruses reproduce differently than bacteria. The do not replicate exact copies of themselves, but they mutate, making different versions of themselves over and over, so any meds would have to adapt to these changes, that is why they are so hard to treat, and anti-viral meds should be giving, not Amoxicillin!!! I don't understand why the doc gave that.
Ok, I will shutup now. I hope all sick babies turn out ok. Me and Annabelle are thinking and praying for you.
