Their digestion is a lot quicker and more effective than ours. Bacteria doesn't have as much of a chance to colonize and multiply in their stomach. While some dogs may get sick from eating a raw diet, there are plenty that benefit from it. Pixie has been eating complete raw food (lamb, venison, chicken, turkey, fish, etc) since she was 4 months old. She'll be a year next month. Never once have I had any problems with her getting sick. I don't have to worry about figuring out what kibble is the best or worry about contaminated batches... I know EXACTLY what she is getting.... She's eating what is natural for dogs and wolves to eat.
I'm completely comfortable with feeding her completely raw, uncooked meat and bones (as is my vet!!)
Some websites with a bit of info: Raw Learning Raw4Dogs Links Raw Connections
There's also a number of books on the subject. I'm sure they can borrowed from a local library or purchased online. | Very well said. It's good to keep ourselves informed. |
