Me again - I mentioned that floating ribs are "normal" and that we all have them. I also said that I worked in x-ray for many years and saw these on every chest film I looked at.
I should have mentioned - that even though they are normal and we all have them - ocassionally (very rarely), they are shaped a little different than they should be and are quite bothersome for some people. And - I have heard of them being removed for this reason.
Again - they are the last couple ribs on the bottom that are not attached to our sternum. This is the way they are supposed to be.
