You are absolutely right and good for you to know that. Any pup under 5 lbs. male or female I don't consider in my breeding program nor do I show them in dog shows. They are blood tested, bile acid tested, and I keep them until they are of size to spay/neuter before they go to a pet home.
I have two little girls now over a year old and almost 4 lbs who is still with me as I am just not sure of her health although she seems fine; the other is just over 3 lbs and I gave her to a friend of mine who wanted her. Yes, she was free.
