My parents and I used to show Golden Retrievers when I was much younger. It is a fun hobbie, but an expensive hobby. If you have to get the championship, generally you have to travel or use a handler. In which case the dog will be away from you for a period of time. The reason we got out of it was that the people play the game dirty. I guess it wasn't such clean fun like we thought it would be. But that was also a different breed than Yorkies. Yorkie people may be different, though. Even though I just said all of that. The next Yorkie I get will be a showdog. It got in my blood and I do miss it.
If you are truly interested, I would recommend going to shows in your area. Summer is a great time to do some discovering. Go ask the breeders questions and get as much knowledge you can. This will also help you find a good breeder, because everyone knows everyone. They could recommend a good one for you. I can't think of anything else off of the top of my head. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
