I don't ever let mommy do the cord, I did one time, and she made a huge mess of it, and the puppy almost bled to death before I got the bleeding to stop, lovely hernia on that puppy. ARGH.. since that "epsiode", I always do the cords myself.. hemostat about an inch from the belly, push back the blood into the puppy, then cut on MY side of the hemostat, not the puppies belly side. No need to tie, etc. the hemostat crimped it shut, and no bleeding. Then the tough part is just encouraging mom she really doesn't NEED to make it shorter, lol
