We've been afraid that Bailey would potty on the bed without either of us waking up, or we would have already had her sleeping on the bed. I think we have good reason to be concerned. I'm by nature a pretty early riser. Usually, I'm up with Bailey for quite a while before my wife wakes up. When I hear Kathie stirring around, I'll take Bailey in to play around on the bed with Kathie for a while. Twice, she has abruptly stopped to pee on the bed. Actually three times - twice she managed to do it, and once I grabbed her in time and got her outside. All of these times, Bailey had been outside and had peed less than an hour earlier. Anyway, our concern is that Bailey won't do anything to wake us - that she'll just do what she needs to do and be done with it. So I come to my question - have you done anything in particular to teach your babies to alert you when they need to go out at night? |
Hummm that is a tough one. Hobbs peed on our bed a couple of times when he was very young. But now he always wakes me up by pawing at my face, making a sneezing sound, walking around on top of me, etc. Yorkies will generally not pee in the same place they sleep. Maybe Bailey pees there bc she knows that it is not where she sleeps. Maybe Hobbs doesn't pee there bc he knows that IS where he sleeps

Maybe she is still just very young and cannot hold her pee for that long. I hope she ultimately gets to sleep in the bed with you! I love cuddling with my two.
We just brought home our 2nd yorkie on Sunday, and she has been sleeping in the bed with us since day 1. She is not potty trained, so I make her sleep on a towel right next to me. I am a very light sleeper, so if she wakes up in the middle of the night, I immediately take her out to use the bathroom. So far she hasn't had any accidents in our bed, but we're still keeping our fingers crossed!
