Melissa, we did have the party at a dog park. It is an amazing place, with three different areas, one specifically for toy breeds. It's HUGE! It's 45 minutes from me in Greensboro, but pretty centrally located in the state so a lot of different folks can come. I have met so many nice people when I advertised the April meetup, and I had them sign a sheet and put their email address on it, and then I made an email distribution list, and we all keep in touch! That's how I got people to come to the birthday party!
