A lot of dogs are very possessive about their food - and will bite or snap at anything or anyone who gets near their bowl.
This really is a bad form of aggression and one that should be stopped. I'm sure you've seen Animal Planet when they test dogs to see which ones are adoptable. And - not being aggressive with their food is one of the first things they look for.
I'm sure some good books or information on the Internet can help you with this.....
I have the opposite problem with my Bichon (21 pounds). He drops all his food for the Yorkie. My Yorkie would be willing to share. But, the Bichon thinks the Yorkie just has to have everything.....and always eat first.
