I thought I would share with YT an email I received from Best Friends - which is a wonderful organization for helping homeless pets.
Dear Members and Friends,
We're sending you this message because we know how much you care about animals from your previous involvement with Best Friends Animal Society. We hope you enjoy receiving information and alerts from Best Friends.
The results of the Best Friends nationwide poll are in. And the results are amazing.
For example, 89 percent of Americans strongly agree that we have a moral obligation to protect the animals in our care.
And 96 percent of us say that animals should never be abused -- ever!
Has something changed -- or been awakened -- in millions of people? Or was it always this way and people simply never really talked about it? Either way, the fact is very straightforward: People really care.
The other side of the picture, of course, is that hundreds of millions of animals suffer and die every year, in this country alone, in factory farms and experimental labs, for sport, and as homeless pets. And you can see this dichotomy all the way through the survey, too.
For example, while almost 70 percent of Americans consider pets to be members of the family, less than half say they’d definitely want to adopt their pets from shelters than buy them from pet stores and breeders. And, again, less than half say animal shelters should get out of the business of killing homeless pets.
Meanwhile, this Friday is Best Friends Day, and we’re asking people everywhere to join Best Friends this weekend in performing at least ONE ACT OF KINDNESS TO ANIMALS.
