Mine are trained on the disposable puppy pads because we got Pippa in the middle of winter with snow on the ground. I couldn't bear to take tiny puppy out to pee in the cold! Scout just followed Pippa's lead when he came along. That said, I have occcasionally wished they were trained outside (even though they will go outside when they are on walks) for a few reasons:
1. The pee pads cost money. I pay $50.00 for a case of 200. A case lasts me about 3 months.
2. When company comes over, I get a little embarrassed when the dogs happen to do #2 before I notice. (They always hit the pad, though!) We have a small house, so there's really not a very out of the way place to put the pads-they are in a hallway by the bathroom.
3. They have this thing about peeing on throw rugs-I have wood floors, only rugs in the bathroom...if those little stinkers get the chance, they WILL go on the throw rug.
BUT, it's very nice to know that they will be OK if we are not home to let them out right on schedule. Good luck in your decision! |
