I think it just depends on the dog. Some are destructive, some are not. Penny's joy in life is to gut a new stuffed animal. She will puncture the squeaker, rip it out, then rip out all stuffing... and wa-lah! She has the perfect toy! For some reason, she'd rather play with the leftover "puppet." I know many dogs destroy the toy or puncture the squeaker and are done with it. Lucky for us, she loves the shell.
We actually have to watch her with other dogs' toys because I know she will ruin them.
