I don't use one with my yorkie, no. I do use them with 2 out of 3 of my big dogs, the third won't use it. I think it is more beneficial to big dogs but I guess it could help little dogs too. Have you thought of just stacking maybe some boards, books, bricks or something underneath the bowls you have now. This could always be temporary, later on if you find some you like better then get those.
