if you train your yorkie and ensure and your child understands that he/she as to respect the yorkies space, then theres no reason why your child and your
pup shouldnt get along, and will most likely love to play together. Remember
just as your dog must be taught how to play gently wth children, your child
should be taught to play gently with your dog...
Generally it is not a good idea to leave children alone wth the yorkie, as it wont take long for the yorkie to snap at the child should it feel threatened
or become startled. Not only that, but you wont want to take the chance of
your pup becoming injured by accident should your child play too roughly.

Well thats from a book i both and read...This book is really good...
but i think your problem is that he/she spends most of his time
at your mom's and less time at your home & Family (child) i think
well know that the more time they spend together the more they
both will learn to respect there space just like this book say's...I have a
1 1/2 year old nephew that comes really often to my house...My
malt/poo 1 1/2 were raised together and my dog will protected him
from anything or anybody that come to close to him...It's kinda
like a bond they build together although at time my nephew can be
kinda rough with him he wont snap..Snuggles just gets up and leave the room...
