I was browsing a web site and found this remark in the Q&A portion.
I just thought it was an interesting statement. I think it also explains why one of mine barks at everyone and everything in site while on a walk. we always follow the same tracks while walking.

"I don't want my dogs marking in the front yard. It makes it slightly more likely the dog could get aggressive with a visitor out there--or mail carrier, etc. That is because some dogs will defend any territory they have marked. "
