If an x-pen isn't an option the you could try bitter apple spray. It works on most dogs and it doesn't damage wood or furniture... You can get it at about any animal supply house.....
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT get the brand from Hartz...... I made that mistake one time and Tank ended up getting sick and diarrea.
