I just brought this up with our vet on Bailey's last visit. She's just 14 weeks, but I wanted to know when to plan for it. He said that the maximum benefits to her long-term health come from having her spayed before she first comes into heat. The reduction in risks of cancer, mammary infections, etc. are still greatly reduced if the surgery is performed after that, just not as great a reduction as there is if it is done earlier. We're planning on Bailey's at about 5 months. He said that wouldn't be too early for her. |
