Sissy was 13 weeks old when I got her and the hair on her body was pretty coarse and ratty. It wasn't until I she had her first trim at about 5 months that the "ratty" hair was gone. I've been bathing her once a week since I got her, but I don't really think she had many baths prior to that. About 6 weeks ago I change her over to the Buddy Wash and Rinse. I really like the lavender smell and it makes her hair feel really nice.
